New options for enteral nutrition in patients with severe acute pancreatitis

Severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) requires an adequate nutritional support. Enteral nutrition (EN) should be preferred to total parenteral nutrition in patients with SAP, as it is associated with reduced mortality and complications. However, in clinical practice EN is employed far less frequently than it should. The main obstacle to EN diffusion is that it is considered complicated, as to ensure full pancreatic rest, nutrition tubes should be placed in the jejunum, requiring often troublesome procedures. In the past few years, it has been proposed that EN through nasogastric (NG) tubes may be a simple, safe and equally valid alternative to nasojejunal tubes.

A research article published on August 7, 2010 in the World Journal of Gastroenterology addresses this question. The authors speculated that a pragmatic possibility in real-world clinical practice would be to employ NG feeding whenever tube migration to the jejunum of bedside inserted feeding tubes does not occur spontaneously. They therefore aimed at assessing the rate of spontaneous distal migration of EN tubes in patients with predicted SAP, to identify possible factors associated with it, and to compare the safety and tolerability of EN with an elemental formula in patients who started nutrition with a "proximal", NG or a "distal", naso-intestinal tube, depending on the success of spontaneous tube migration.

This is the first study of its kind observing the outcome of EN in SAP patients in a "real world" clinical setting, with the study protocol driven by the need to have more solid grounds in making clinical decisions about everyday medical care circumstances. Both the proximal and the distal enteral approaches resulted to be feasible, safe and effective in most patients. This issue has a relevant impact on everyday clinical practice as the main limit to EN usage in AP is the technical difficulty in obtaining small bowel access.

First Lady Michelle Obama is reportedly wrestling with at least 100 House Democrats who would rather not pass a re-authorization of the nation's school meals program if it means taking money from food stamp recipients.

The Senate approved the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, which would increase spending on child nutrition programs by $4.5 billion -- including a 6-cent-per-meal boost to the rate the federal government reimburses school lunch -- but said the only way to fund it without adding to the deficit was to remove $2.2 billion from the food stamp (now known as SNAP) program. Re-authorization of the Child Nutrition Act must now be approved by the House before authorization for the legislation currently in place expires.

The Senate's funding method is a bit like picking the pocket of one panhandler to put it in the hand of another. Yet the mainstream media has hailed these measly 6 cents as the first increase in the subsidized lunch reimbursement rate in three decades -- a false notion.

Apparently, no one in the press has actually bothered to read the rules governing the school meals program. If they had, they'd know that the disputed 6 cents are barely more than what the National School Lunch Program receives automatically each year by way of cost of living increases. This year, in fact, the reimbursement rate has already gone up 4 cents -- from $2.68 per lunch to $2.72 -- thanks to an adjustment in the Consumer Price Index.

Granted, school kitchens are broke and have been for a long time. According to the School Nutrition Association, schools that rely on the federal reimbursements to pay their expenses lose 35 cents on average with every lunch they serve, which helps explain why they feed kids sweetener-stuffed snacks instead of real food in order to comply with the USDA's calorie requirements.

The 6 cent increase would be laughable if it weren't so tragic. But more important in this stalled legislation is a provision that would, for the first time, give the USDA authority to regulate all foods sold in schools, possibly meaning an end -- finally -- to so-called "competitive foods," such as sugary drinks and candy in school vending machines and ice cream bars and fruit rollups in the deli line. That would go a long way toward addressing the obesity epidemic that Michelle Obama has pledged to end.

So I say, Keep your 6 cents. Let the nation's lunch ladies do what they've been doing for years that Congress can't -- live with what they've got. Congress can then continue doing what it does best -- spending money we don't have on wars we don't need. Somehow, the kids will survive.

What do dieting and Genesis 2:24 have in common? Give up? The verse states, "Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." In today's modern world people become over-weight and diet. The flesh is fat, not just the wife or the husband but both for the two have become one.

Another verse emphasizes the connection: Ephesians 5:28 "So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:"

"Losing weight and keeping it off is a dream for many people. Some women have been "queen size" all their lives and some men have been "chubby" since first grade. They have tried diet after diet in this "thin world" without success and have reached the state of hopelessness. For those who are married there is still hope if they can get the support from their mate to succeed. Successful weight loss is more than "will power", it takes individual effort and support from those who love you A husband or a wife must be as committed to weight loss as the spouse attempting to lose.

My wife of twenty-five years has tried every diet program from grapefruits to bodywraps. All have failed until we had a long talk about past diet plans and why they failed. I've always been slim, athletic and weight conscious so dieting has never been a concern. She, on the other hand, only had to look at food to gain weight. We discovered that in order for her to succeed, it would have to be a joint effort. Her successful weight loss of sixty-five pounds over a period of nine months came because we worked together. Some of the things we learned as we went are listed below. If you want to be successful, it will take the efforts of two.

1. When the dieting person decides it is time really do it, suggest looking at diet plans you both may be able to live with. Being supportive usually means having to eat some of the same things as the person on the diet. If the diet contains too many of the things your mate would rather not see on his/her plate, you can't count on much help. A diet plan you both can live with is the plan you both must choose.

2. Be mindful of straying eyes. Dieting women are very conscious of eyes, especially when they are dressing or undressing. A glance can be mistaken for disapproval. There have been many times when I have heard, "What? You are looking at my hips, thighs ..." It wasn't that at all, we were just in the same room and she was in my line of sight. Things can be touchy with a dieter.

Husbands are just as sensitive. One husband and wife came to blows because she suggested he buy pants that covered his "crack". He bought size 38 pants which he wore below his belly and consequently when he would bend over, the pants were not positioned to cover the rear.

3. Snacking is best done when you are alone. Rice cakes may crunch but will not satisfy the dieter if you are eating potato chips and washing them down with beer or a soft drink. The rice cake and glass of water just will not satisfy. Plan ahead if you and your dieter plan to watch TV together and snack. Have your favorite snack while you are apart and have a munchy that will not be so tempting while you are together. You may try ice cream while your dieter has a diet yogurt, or a diet ice cream.

4. Go out to restaurants often together. Dieters do not want to surrender their lives to diets. Many diet plans provide food guides that include restaurant fare. Choose those restaurants that are included and then choose a meal that will not be tempting to your dieter. Skip the dessert till you get home. A movie after the meal will stem the urge for dessert and make the evening complete.

5. Don't be annoyed by questions. "Do I look like I have lost in my arms, legs, ...?" are questions that will be asked over and over again. It takes weeks of diet and exercise to see significant loss and the loss is so slow you may not be able to notice. "Yes, dear you are getting there!" is a simple enough answer and it is truthful. The slightest praise from you will be the best incentive to stick with the diet. Answer questions truthfully, cooperate with the dieter. Don't be surprised if you are constantly quizzed about the bathroom scales needing adjustment. We have a weight bench in our home and I occasionally carry fifty pounds and stack on the scale just to prove the accuracy.

6. Dieting requires a person feel good about their appearance if they are to be successful. When weight loss is more than 5 pounds, clothing sizes begin to change. A successful diet will mean new clothes often. It is important to your dieter to look good and not feel they are wearing clothes that do not fit. Before launching the diet, make allowances in your budget for new clothes. If the dieter will be dropping several sizes, plan to shop every few weeks for "disposable" clothing. Buying inexpensive items that fit but will not be permanent. Discount clothing will look good for a few weeks, consignment shops offer good prices and relatives will often loan for a few weeks just to be supportive. Bottom line is you want your dieter to feel good about their appearance and feel they are making progress.

7. Weight loss requires exercise. If you are not a person who likes exercise, you will be doomed to losing weight slowly and then regaining all you have lost. The key to keeping it off is exercise. Your spouse can help by helping you to select the right way to exercise and a willingness to exercise with you. Some women are not comfortable going to a an exercise club because of their looks or their lack of physical ability. This is something that needs to be discussed. If the choice is to have a home exercise program, some equipment is necessary. The spouse may have to be brave enough to go to an exercise center to see what is there and try out a few types of equipment. Yard sales, consignment shops and some sports stores offer great prices on used equipment. Shop together and buy what the two of you will use. A home gym such as a weights and pulley system is by far the best because it allows the user many exercises for toning the whole body and it can be used by both men and women.

8. Encouragement is the most important element of a diet program for your mate. As often as you can, tell your mate how good he/she looks. Take time and do things together such as shopping, movies even sports. You don't have to spend a lot of money but you must spend time together strengthening your relationship. Encouragement is not just words it is in being together.

Diets are never enough for successful weight loss. Proper nutrition and exercise are by far and away the keys to losing and keeping weight off. As in quitting smoking, stop drinking or kicking drugs, a support system is necessary to lose weight. Do it together and both will reap the rewards.

Yankees What Happened To Our Don?

If Joe Girardi decides he had enough of the Yankees experience and goes to the Cubs, the Yankees can forget about Don Mattingly managing them.

The Dodgers hired Mattingly as their new manager after Joe Torre announced he won't return as the Dodger manager next year.

This is too bad. The Yankees need a manager who appreciates the game. They need a manager who won't overmanage. They need a manager who will not have an ego on gamedays.

Mattingly would fit the bill. Please do not talk about his lack of experience. Any manager can manage a team with the payroll the Yankees have.

If a manager has plenty of talent to work with he can get by. We saw that with Girardi last year.

The Yankees manager made dubious decisions when it came to pitching in October. Fortunately for him, his hitters bailed him out.

It also helped that CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett, and Andy Pettitte managed to win games in October.

If Girardi was not blessed with talent he would just be another manager and nothing more.

Want to know how players look good? Look back to Boston's manager Terry Francona. Philadelphia sports fans perceived him as a dumb manager when he lost in Philly. Yet he is now viewed as a great manager because he won two championships in Boston.

Does a manager make that much of a difference? All a manager can do is have his team sharp when the game begins.

Other than that, it comes down to what the players do within the white lines.

There is a good reason the Yankees are not in a rush to sign Girardi to an extension. They know he is replaceable. If anything, he should be begging to stay on rather than using the Cubs as leverage.

That would be a bad strategy on Girardi's part, especially if the Yankees miss out on the playoffs for the second time in three years under his stewardship. Don't laugh at that prospect.

The Yankees are nicked up with injuries. Nick Swisher and Brett Gardner can't seem to move, Mark Teixiera's foot limits his ability to hit, and Alex Rodriguez has not been productive thanks to a hip issue.

Their hitters don't scare elite pitchers. The Yankees strike out often these days at a high ratio.

Outside of CC Sabathia, no one in the rotation scares anyone. The Yankees are banking on Andy Pettitte, but what if he can't be good enough after being activated from the disabled list?

The schedule does the team no favors. The Orioles, Rays, Blue Jays, and the Red Sox know what it takes to beat the Yankees this year.

With the Red Sox six games out in the division and six 1/2 games out for the wild card, they can make a run of their own. At this point, there's more trust on the Red Sox than the Yankees to make the playoffs.

What's alarming is Girardi is not responding to the situation well. He has been moody with reporters. He talked about how the pennant race is work. He has had a quick hook with the pitchers if they screw up.

Is this want the Yankees want to see from their leader?

This type of attitude rubs off on the players. Girardi was able to relax last year because his players were never hurt and they played great all year.

When there is first sign of trouble, the Yankees manager is tense.

It is not going to get any better next year. The Rays will take a step back with defections, but the Orioles, Blue Jays, and the Red Sox are not going anywhere. Expect those three teams to improve.

How will Girardi handle it? Do the Yankees trust him to lead? This year's experience will speak volumes about him.

We also question Girardi's bullpen use. It's nice he wants to rest his relievers, but this is September. Every game is important. If the Yankees lose these games, the Red Sox will gain more games.

The Yankees should be trying to win these games. The more they win, they can exterminate the Rays. Then, they can go rest their players.

That's how a team should do it. For Girardi to think the wild-card spot is a safety net, that's wrong. Nothing is guaranteed.

If this strategy costs his team the postseason, the Yankees should fire him outright.

Does anyone think Mattingly would do this? Don't think so. Rest assured, he would play to win the game and worry about the other stuff when he has to.

Plus, he would embrace the games in September instead of pouting like a spoiled brat.

Mattingly would have been a better choice to manage the Yankees when the team decided to end their relationship with Torre. He would have been a great choice to take over for Girardi.

It is the Yankees' loss.

They are stuck with Girardi or whoever for better or for worse.

The Dodgers need pitching, hitting, a great closer, a first baseman who can hit for power and the same at third, and probably a new center fielder and what do they end up with?

A new manager who has never managed before.

I love Don Mattingly as a player. With that steady career batting average of .307, nine gold gloves, an MVP Award and some batting titles - but can he transpose his personal winning attitude and baseball acumen to his team?

It is kind of scary if you are a Dodger fan.  Just this week he said he had no idea why the Dodgers were hitting so poorly. This from the Dodgers hitting coach.

In his one stint as manager a month or so ago when Torre was tossed from the game, he made a really stupid mistake when he went to the mound twice in the same trip.  Donnie Baseball either forgot or didn't know the rule.  Either way, I am glad he's gotten that one out of the way.

Listen, Mattingly may have learned a lot while working at the feet of one of the great managers of our time but it appears like a shot in the dark.  I know Joe Torre and you are no Joe Torre.

The Dodgers are a mess as everyone knows what with the owners' divorce proceedings which led to a slashed budget which led to no buying power in the off-season which led to a weakened squad that included a 5th starter with zero big league experience which led to no true back-ups for the weary and the wounded which led to an almost last place finish.

They need a miracle worker not a newbie manager who will be learning on the job.

I wish him well and hope he can pull this one out as easily as he could snare an errant throw in the dirt.

School: Back to school shopping ripoffs?

bench monday {back-to-school edition} by polkadotandplaid

August is the time to get ready to head back to school. Summer is almost over and we need to focus, organize, and take action. I have 18 tips for teachers, new or established, to use to be prepared this school season.

1. Is the decor set up? Are there things up on bulletin boards? Leave some space to fill with your student's work to add a personal touch to the room.

2. Name tags at your student's desks? Make sure to double check your list of names, spelling, and have extra name tags handy.

3. Music needed for the first day? Decide if you want some soft music to make the kids feel comfortable. The music may help you to relax too.

4. Do you have a sign-in sheet for the parents? Most parents will come with their children the first day of school. A sign-in sheet is a good way to get to know who's child belongs to what parent.

5. Have a "how to get home" sheet? Besides a sign-in sheet, a paper indicating how the child intends to get home from school is extremely important. The first week of school is hectic and you should be sure kids go where they're supposed to go."Losing" someone's child, especially before you've even matched faces to all the names is a tragedy.

6. Do you have activities ready? When the parents drop off their child they will need to sign a few papers. Kids will need some games, puzzles, or books, etc. to keep them entertained.

7. Have you made "very good work" folders? These folders are for coloring pages, games, mazes, blank writing paper, and other fun learning activities to use during quiet times the first week or two of school. Parents love to see their children's work. It also helps to have a few papers on hand to display around the room for parent teacher meetings.

8. Do you have rewards ready? The first few weeks are a good time to promote good behavior with rewards. Candy, stickers, special privileges, etc. are good examples of some positive rewards. Make sure to establish when, what, and how long rewards will be given out.

9. What is the first day's project? Have an assignment is planned that the kids can take home. Parents will be curious to know how the first day went.

10. Is the day planned out? Have books and items ready so a consistent movement is kept through out the day.

11. Do you have a portfolio to send home to parents? A packet of your rules, mission statement, classroom routine and schedule should be included.

12. Personal items in reach? Deodorant, toothbrush and paste, cologne, hand lotion, cosmetics, etc. to freshen up. Antibacterial soap for washing your own hands, and baby wipes for washing the children. A room deodorizer spray for a pleasant smell. Bottled water to keep your throat from drying out. Aspirin or other medication for aches and pains.

13. Do you have your desk properly stocked? A picture of your family or pets can help personify the room. A daily inspirational calendar of some sort can provide a smile. Paper, pens, pencils, hall passes, and referral forms are good to have placed on your desk. A jar of colored markers and your reward jar are also great additions to your desk area.

14. Is your student's desk stocked? Very Good Work folder will get the kids inspired to create. Name tags will help the children get to know each other. Pencils, crayons, eraser, etch. so all of their supplies is at a hand's reach.

15. Is your desk presentable? With all of the items that you have to keep on your desk organization is crucial.

16. Do you have at least 3 copies of your class list? Place one list on a clipboard near the door. This will be used to take outside during Fire Drills. The other two are good to keep and look over.

17. Have you organized the room to provide a welcoming reading or drawing corner? Kids love special places to read, draw, or relax.

18. Do you have a sign-up sheet for parents? Extra help from parents is always nice.

This list is a good start to focusing, organizing, and taking action for back to school. Summer is a fun time and sometimes it's a little hard to concentrate, but with a little planning back to school is a breeze! Don't be left with an F in classroom preparation!

Buy what you need for the first day of school but don’t buy too much for the rest of the year. Some items, such as pencils and pens, might be useful to stock up on if there is a great sale. But since many stores overstock on items, you may actually be able to find some bargains by scanning for sales after the back to school rush is over.

Did you know

Mazda RX7 Sports Car at Canary Wharf by gutierrezcars

Darwin's theory of natural selection is that individuals with favorable traits are more likely to survive and reproduce than those without them. The theory suggests that those who are stronger and who have adapted to the surroundings of their habitat are better equipped to handle the struggles they will face in their world. Darwinalso proposes that the heritable component of these favorable traits will be passed along to their progeny, so that during the course of reproducing generation after generation, these favorable traits will become more and more apparent in the resulting off-spring.

When people think of natural selection, they often think of animals in the wild who adapt and change their physical traits to survive the wilderness. But natural selection definitely applies to human beings, if not more so. Humans have gotten taller, have developed bigger mental capacities, and are more immune to the diseases and ailments of their natural habitat than their ancestors were. But the buck doesn't stop their. In sports and athletics, it has become quite apparent that the athletes of today are undoubtedly stronger and faster than the athletes of a half-century ago. The athletes' times are lower, their bench presses are higher, and their weights are much heavier. Natural selection in sports is why athletes break records and competitors do something one day that they could not do the day before. Athletes' capabilities change through their own personal development, and from the reproduction of the heritable components of favorable traits that are the results of that personal development. Seeing as that is, I want to propose the theory that the reason for blacks having a percentage of athletes in sports that is superior to that of the percentage of blacks in is because of the natural selection process that took place on Africans during the triangle trade.

The numbers speak for themselves. In the major sports that most interest African-American children, there is a dominating presence of Black athletes. The NBA is 78% black, and over the last 5 years, only 3 non-black athletes were First-Team All-NBA. The NFL is 69% black, and in positions that are predominantly based on speed and athleticism (running back, corner back, and wide receiver), there are less than 3 or 4 non-black athletes projected to start the 2006 NFL season. Conversely, Blacks only make 12% of the American population. So for the NFL to have 5 times that percentage of blacks on its rosters, and for the NBA to have 6 times as much, there is obviously some element dependent upon race that is causing blacks to become professional athletes at much higher rates than their general population percentage would suggest. Even in major league baseball, a sport that is of little interest to young, black, urban, youth, still contains a 10% Black population, and a 31% Latino decent population, and Latinos can be considered to be of African descent. There is also a study performed by the Journal of National Cancer Institute that says Blacks contain anywhere from 3 to 19 percent more testosterone that Whites, which may explain the propensity for Blacks to be apparently more athletic. But what can account for this increase in testosterone, and overall athletic ability?

Some people try to pin Black success in sports to the fact that the average black youths' economic status is low, thus leading some to believe that sports is the only way for some inner-city black youth to move up the socioeconomic ladder. But for every black kid that has a burning desire to make it to the pros, there are 4 or 5 white youths who are playing organized basketball, baseball, football or soccer.

I would like to propose that the reason for black success in their athletic pursuits, their higher levels of testosterone, and their inclining position in sports, is the resulting factors of the triangle slave trade and American slavery. And this is not a stretch by any means when you really think about it. Darwin proposed that individuals adapt to their surroundings in order to survive, and those who are able to adapt more are more likely to endure their habitat. His theory then suggest that those adaptations are passed from generation to generation, getting stronger and more prevalent through further adaptation in each individual until the feature is completely genetic and remains a characteristic of the species.

As I mentioned before, this theory is explained quite well in the development of athletes over time. But one must also look at the fact that this theory applies to specific lineages in sports history. After all, no one with any knowledge of sports would fail to admit that there have been a number of father-son, even mother-daughter, sports connections that have produced two great athletes. Even in everyday life we see that some families produce better athletes than others; it is why brothers and sisters in high school and junior high play sports mutually.

So if athleticism can often be traced to certain lineages in history, why not go back even further? When slave traders were bringing blacks across the
Atlantic Ocean in the 1600's and 1700's, very few Blacks survived. They were placed in holdings in the bottom of the ship, where they were forced to live in meager and insalubrious conditions. They had little food and were also exposed to diseases from Europe and the of which they were not originally immune to. Only 33% of Africans involved in the Trans-Atlantic slave trade survived, meaning that only those that were strong enough to adapt to and endure minimal amounts of water and food, malnutrition, diseased ridden quarters and infighting between themselves, were capable of making the trip across the Atlantic. That 33% means that for every slave that was successfully instituted into a New World plantation, two died as a result of the detriments of slave trading. This causes me to believe that this 33% survival rate resulted in only the strongest of the strongest Blacks being left available to New World slavery. The advent of slavery then caused slaves to adapt to a new world full of different temperatures, working regiments, and diseases. This adaptation caused the black population in these slavingNew World countries to develop more favorable traits, such as speed, strength, higher levels of testosterone, and endurance. These traits helped them in their fields of work and helped develop a more capable immune system than they had prior to slavery. After all, blacks had to be stronger and more capable in order to hold any leverage in the slavery system. If a black wanted to stay close to their family, they had to demonstrate superior capabilities in order to prevent the eventual selling of their bodies; so naturally, blacks adapted. For these adaptive occurrences to take place throughout the entire black population, blacks underwent natural selection for the entire duration of American slavery and then some, eventually resulting in the development of a Darwinian race; the superior black athlete.

But this not only occurred in the , but in all New World countries where slaves from Africa were being deported. This is why Brazilians are unquestionably the best people at soccer. It is why Latinos of either domestic or foreign descent comprise of 31% of Major League baseball when they are only 12.5% of the national population. It is why Jamaicans continually produce top track and field athletes despite them being such a poor and relatively diminutive nation.

Here in though, the results are of much more enormity. Blacks are the reason for much of the categorical dominance in sports over the past 30-40 years. Blacks are the predominant race in American basketball, football, track, and boxing. And when you think of the best players to play these major sports that the has dominated for so long, you often will come upon names that belong to an African-American. Conversely, when you think of the major sports that the is not dominant in, such as hockey, baseball, soccer and rugby, these are sports that are not predominantly black. This is no coincidence. Blacks, the Darwinian race and the United States' preeminent athletes, do not play hockey, baseball, and soccer, and thus the United States is rarely every going to appropriately contend to be as good in those sports as they are in the ones in which blacks participate in. So just from observing how the has dominated basketball, track and boxing over the past 40 years, you can see that blacks are the consistent factor that contributes to the 's success in these sports and their failures in the others.

If you still do not believe in the fact that African-American Blacks have developed into a superior athlete, then look at how African-American Black athletes differ from their ancestral countries in Africa. Other than the male dominating the New York and Boston marathons, you hear very little about African success in sports. Granted, the average economic conditions in these countries is far below that of the Western civilization, but you still hear about those 2 or 3 Kenyans in the marathon, but you don't hear about those 2 or 3 Kenyans in any of the other major sporting events, or at least I don't. Thus tt seems pretty apparent to me that the African-American Black has exceeded the athletic capabilities of its ancestral nations due to the fact that a long time ago, some White Europeans took blacks from Africa and only allowed the top third to survive.

With only the top third of blacks surviving the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, not to mention New Worlders only selecting the strongest looking individuals in the first place, it is no wonder that Blacks have come along to dominate the most prevalent sports in . You know, there was a time when baseball was 's sport even though it had closed its doors to African-Americans for so long. But when African-Americans finally broke down those doors, at its peak, Blacks flooded the gates of the MLB and were members of the Majors at a much higher fraction than their stake in the general population. When the fervor of getting into baseball finally died down in the minds of the Black population, so did black participation in the sport of baseball. This is why Black contribution in baseball is half of what it once was, coupled with the fact that it is much easier to start a game of basketball or football in the inner-city because all you need to play is a ball. The decline in Black participation in baseball probably has a lot to do with the fact that the had such a poor showing in the World Baseball Classic earlier this year. If Major League Baseball, and , ever wants to regain its Baseball dominance, it might consider starting a promotion to encourage the Darwinian race to become avid participants.

Is it right to love?

I've found that the concept of forgiveness is quite unappreciated by many emotionally injured people. Some people believe that forgiveness is merely setting oneself up to be hurt again while others believe that forgiveness is pure weakness. When a person has been wronged and emotionally injured as a result of it, their judgment is often impaired which makes it easy believe that forgiveness is an irrational behavior.

Unfortunately, when a person continuously resists and rejects forgiveness, their ongoing unforgivingness has the potential to cause irreversible emotional damage and scarring. Some of the visual effects of this that are quite easy to see include vitriol, hate, gender prejudice and vengeful behavior. In the initial stages right after being emotionally injured, these behaviors are merely a human response to a toxic or harmful stimulus that can be temporary so long as the individual puts forth a genuine effort to heal and move on. But when a person chooses the path of unforgivingness, these dysfunctional behaviors can become a way of life.

I've found that forgiveness is best accomplished when taken in stride. One of the first steps for me was considering the advice from a friend who suggested that instead of regarding my ex's infidelity as an act of evil, consider it a gift. Being as emotionally injured as I was at the time, the idea of this seemed absolutely irrational. To consider the idea that all the emotional pain and agony that I was enduring as a result of my ex infidelity was a gift, damn, what else could I think but to think that the woman who told me this was absolutely nuts!

Fortunately, even though my ex's infidelity left me in a complete state of humility, there was still something inside me that was willing to consider my friend's advice and give this gift idea a try. But why choose the road of forgiveness over unforgivingness? Because the emotional trauma and anger that I was enduring absolutely sucked! Even though the gift idea seemed irrational at the time, the idea of going forward in a life filled with nothing but toxic and self-destructive emotions leading to gross dysfunctional behavior seemed even more irrational.

The first step towards forgiveness was acknowledging and considering the idea that my ex's infidelity was a gift. The second step was putting forth a genuine effort in learning to understand WHY it was a gift. In looking back, here are some reasons why my ex's infidelity has come to be genuinely believed as a gift:

Freedom from an incompatible partner.
Though I didn't realize the incompatibilities between me and my wife while we were married, in looking back, I'm now able to be honest with myself and admit that I was absolutely miserable in my marriage. This kind of brutal honesty can be very difficult and challenging for an emotionally injured person to subject theirselves to, but once it's done, it really helps in learning to let go of some of the pain. I would ask myself, how could I continue having feelings and love for someone that I was truly miserable with?

Personal Growth & Evolution.
In being proactive with my emotional healing, it didn't take long for me to discover just how primitive of a guy I really was. This same friend who encouraged me to see my ex's infidelity as a gift also encouraged me to acknowledge and accept my faults and flaws. In making myself acknowledge and connect to these unfavorable personal attributes of myself, it gave me specific focal points to concentrate on in my efforts to heal and evolve as a human being and as a man. This greatly improved my self-respect and self-esteem.

Availability to True Love.
Being separated and then divorced from my ex wife freed me from a dysfunctional marriage that lacked true love and harmony. The word "Availability" in this regard doesn't mean that I'm actively seeking a long-term commitment though. What being available to true love means for me is that I'm free to continue my ongoing efforts in expanding on my personal growth interests so that I can evolve into the man I need to be to experience the true love and harmony that I genuinely desire with a woman.

In learning to understand and believe in why my ex's infidelity was a gift, the idea of what was once the most irrational thing I ever heard had transcended into one of the most rational decisions I've ever made. But I won't deny that the transcendence this gift has given me is flawless. Though I'm able to acknowledge how much I've grown and healed in my ongoing quest to achieve total forgiveness, there has been some scarring that I may never truly heal from. For example:

-I've become almost completely prejudice of anyone who's cheated or committed adultery.

-I'm commitment-phobic towards women who've ever been sexually abused or raped. This fear is greatly reduced if I truly believe that a person has put forth a genuine effort with the help of a professional therapist to heal from the atrocities they've endured. But the fact remains, I'm familiar with what many sexual abuse victims are capable of when certain stressors or influences are strong and so my fear of them has become scarred into my being.

-I'm commitment-phobic towards age-gap relationships. In putting forth a genuine effort to heal from the pain of my ex's adultery and evolve as a man, studying love and relationships has simply become a part of that process. My studies of age-gap relationships have taught me many of the reasons that make them too high-risk for me to consider. With the emotional scarring I do have, I fear getting hurt by a much younger woman who'd very likely outgrow me.

But even with the emotional scarring remnants I have from my ex's infidelity, I still absolutely believe that the pursuit of forgiveness is the right choice. I couldn't see living the rest of my life harboring pain, anger and vengeance. Some people show these vile traits openly and without shame while others try to conceal it with crass and offensive behavior that they're trying to sell as humor. Either way, such toxic and dysfunctional behavior doesn't reflect the man I need to be in order to experience the true love and harmony I desire.

Supposing I hadn't taken the path of forgiveness and chose to lead a dysfunctional life filled with unforgivingness, what are the chances that I'd only repeated the same mistakes that lead me into my first incompatible and miserable marriage? Being of sounder mind now than ever before, even with the emotional scarring I continue to have, unforgivingness seems to me to be one of the most irrational and toxic choices we humans are capable of making.

Wishing everyone a beautiful day!

Peace, Love and Harmony,,,
